Alhamdulillahi Robbil ‘alamin.

Wired just posted a useful tips on their recent magazine which just arrived to my home this morning by post office. Yes, passing through airport security, either the waiting line or the practice is quite frustrating. Glad they made it into their own Wiki (NOTE: open the original article one, the wiki sites is not as complete as the article).

Since 9/11 and even since new law has been introduced last year, getting through airport security is horrible, especially in U.S.A (and also some Europe country like U.K). But since my experience was only in U.S.A for about twice last year, this note tips might be useful. In my first visit to US, I did happened not to bring my laptop, so getting the security is quite fast.

Once a while, in the first time, the only frustrating to me is, we must take off our shoes (not used to barefoot, socks is allowed) to get into the X-Ray door. And, when the alarm is beeping, we should walk back, and think what might left on your body does make the alarm alert. If you do not know, they would not tell. You must give your queue to another person behind you, and let yourself put off your stuff. In the first time, I just got three or five times back (may be my lack of language add to this), then realizing it was my belt which alerted the alarm.

And, when you bring your laptop into flight, you might even got busier. Your laptop must be taken out from your bags. That’s why I really appreciate the Wired’s guidelines:
1. Check into TSA website, how long the security process time in the airport you going to be.
2. Carry a messenger bag with lots of bag. Put your every stuff there (handphone, luquids, battery, coin, and your belt!), so you only care about boarding pass and your passport.
3. Wear laceless shoes. Yeah, I get used to use sandals. That’s nice.
4. Use two bins to save your belongings on the X-Ray checks. I happened to use three or four bins, and that’s quite heartening, whether they will be fall into the next roller (because the TSA agent doesn’t really care about that, compared that to the security officer in most Asia’s countries).
5. Go in. Go fast. Use your belt, your handphone, etc, after you get into the plane.

After that, just remember if you plan to bring your MacBook Air. Not every security personnels is updated with new technology, even in the U.S.
